It takes me only about 3-4 minutes and my dog Buddy and I are out of town and on the highway, enjoying a morning run. The white snow-covered fields spread out on both sides of me. Today there is a bit of haze so I can’t quite make out the mountain range in the distance. I like to run, but it’s only my second run back after about a year and a half break due to illness.
This is one of the pleasures of living in a small rural place. Your run can take you away from people and houses in no time. You get to breathe in the fresh air – as long as feedlots haven’t been cleaning their pens.
As I come back into town, Buddy and I come across a pack of 5 or 6 kids heading off to school. Some say “Hi” to me, some say “Hi” to Buddy. One reaches down to pet Buddy while another, Nathan, reaches up to give me a “hi-five”. I wish them a good day and they reply, “You too.”
What a great way to start the day! My muscles have been worked. My lungs have filled with fresh air. Buddy got his exercise. And I’m off to the church to start the day.
I hope your day started out well today too!
